LOIN BROTHERS EXCLUSIVE DJ MIX!

The Loin Brothers are high on our list of favourites! They have played at nearly every Picnic and that isn't about to change! From their “Heavy Helmet” track on Future Classic (2009) which was remixed by Mock & Toof (DFA, Tiny Sticks) and licensed by Ivan Smagghe for his Live At The Robert Johnson compilation to totally killing every dance floor they step up to, they will always be alright with us!

They also have a KILLER new 12" about to drop on Future Classic "Gardan Of Vargulf" with remixes from Woolfy (DFA, Permanent Vacation) and Tornado Wallace (Delusions Of Grandeur).

The Loin Brothers present PICNIC IN THE GARDEN OF VARGULF

To celebrate this extraordinary DJ mix the Loin Brothers have lovingly weaved together for us, we thought we'd ask our buddies some random questions. The results are sterling!! Long John Saliva gets personal about his artse (yes that right!) and Silvio Mysterio opens up about California dreaming.

What is the best thing about working with each other?

LJS: We can keep the pressure on each other... as far as writing music goes having two heads working means double the power when DJing - it gives us more time to select the next track and watch the crowd to see what they want

SM: Long John is great with his hands. It makes things very greasy, I mean easy.

What is the most memorable thing that has happened to you while joined at the Loin?

LJS: I could mention the kick on after Mad-Dog Driller rode into town... but its probably best left unspoken

SM: Yes, one of those memories that you are chained to - for better or for worse!!

When did you realise that music wasn’t a choice?

LJS: I realised music wasn't a choice after our first studio jam together, Silv welcomed me into his home with open arms and then swiftly chained me to a keyboard. He told me that I had 3 hours to compose something "hot and pumpy" and if I succeeded he would reward me with my freedom and some of his homemade jerky.

SM: I was reading socialist works and realised that there was alot of potential for abuse of power if I could partner with someone that was completely adept at making high powered disco music. Sure this had been done before but I figured that as long as we made things erotic and hard then everything else would fall at our feet. That's what I can recall anyways.

What’s your favourite gig?

LJS: Lovefingers @ St Petersburg is probably my all time favourite. Other memorable moments have been Horse Meat Disco at the Empire in Brisbane, Sugar in Adelaide is definitely up there as well.

SM: Absolutely. No spin here. Best gig we've played was Lovefingers. Such an awesome vibe that night. The place was packed and everyone was up for the wild and crazy stuff.

Your track titles are pretty out-there. What’s the inspiration for the newbie about to come out on Future Classic?

LJS: The path into the “Garden of Vargulf” has been a long and winding road… Starting out titled "The Primal Touch" it has evolved and transformed into the pleasure romp that it is. Vargulf is the rogue wolf, who separates himself from the pack to hunt alone for pleasure not survival. The Garden is his private moonlit paradisio, his pleasure chest if you will… and this is the soundtrack to his midnight rendezvous. He climbs the hills surrounding his blood soaked lair, panting heavily as the cool air of the night fills his lungs, suddenly he stops dead in his tracks, in the distance a smoky haze fills the air. Pulsating strobes pierce through the trees, his ears prick up to the constant throb of sweaty bodies thrusting at the beat. Undaunted he lunges forward... his pace quickening to the frenzied beat that is climaxing as he enters the glade. One heartbeat quickens as another slows... an awkward calm engulfs the faceless prey as Vargulf satisfies his lust for pleasure again and again.

SM: Yep, exactly. I might re-cap here... Sun goes down, wolf, garden, pleasure intent, kill kill kill, sun comes back up. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Are you fulfilled being as underground dance music artist in Australia? What would you like to see more of as far as artist development and nurturing?

LJS: To be a true artiste is to let yourself weep emotion through your artse. As the emotion flows out of your artse you must channel it and use it to create the fantastique, You must be passionate about your artse, and let your artse speak to people. I will only ever encourage more people to develop and nuture my artse.

SM: Our business thrives on economic hell. We need a lot of businesses to go out of business so they vacate their buildings. We need tax receipts to hit an all time low so the government can no longer afford to operate efficiently. Then we can party in all these vacated spaces and have a really good time.

What do you see as the positives of living and working as you do in Australia?

LJS:
Dirt tracks, bush-wacking, endless summers, fox tails, walking down the road, Belgium, flavour sensations, late night discotheques, Bush booze, picnics and swoop crows

SM: Road ribs, white pointers, rootong, girt by sea.

Colin you recently spent some time in California… was it all sunshine and disco?

SM: Had such a good time Carly. LA is awesome. The parties there are fkn great! In the space of a few weeks we (Morgie and I) hit Palm Springs with Woolfy and Scotty Coats DJin to a pool full of people, hit a 40th birthday with DJ Harvey playing, and caught two warehouse parties on with Doc Martin, the other with Peanut Butter Wolf playin a techno/house set. The 12 lane highways, record stores and burgers and fish tacos are pretty good too.

You both have a pretty good collection of animal print clothes! Where in gods name do you shop? Ha!

LJS: I can only say this. On a Wednesday take a U - Turn on the road that gives you more, when the sun is 4 hours off setting in the west, good things will come to you in triple, all for the price of a lobster

SM: Look, don't listen to him. Take a left at the road that gives you more. Drive to the end of that. You will have to then get out of your car and walk down the track that is behind the crying horse. Halfway down that track you will find a house. Don't go inside that house whatever as there is an old lady who isn’t very nice. So keep walking down this track and then after about 4 hours you will come across a shop that specialises in animal print ladies fashion.

What record are you most emotionally attached to and of course – why?

LJS: Vivien Vee “With Vivien Vee” will always have a place close to my heart... “Gotta Go” is my favourite track on it and is reserved for special moments only

SM: Alessi Brothers “Seabird”. "Lonely seabird.... you've been away from land to long, soooooo long". You'd have to be a friggin drongo to not be feelin that one.

If you were packing for a Picnic what would you never leave home without?

LJS: Hot Calypso Salami

SM: Dry sherry and biltong.
